*Program includes synchronous and asynchronous learning time and assignments.

Of the 200 hours, 40 hours is Self-Directed study which must include:

  1. 6 sessions with a somatic movement practitioner (6 hrs minimum) *we will  provide a list of possibilities in the Vancouver area and you can always look for someone local to your own area through the ISMETA website:  www.ismeta.org (Students pay fees directly to the practitioner they choose to work with. Movement Arc instructors are also available for your 1/1 sessions.)
  2. 1 or 2 Community Based Projects during the months of October and November after you have finished your main coursework; including group facilitation and individual sessions. We  recommend students facilitate 8 individual and 8 group sessions (16hrs minimum), but 16 hours can also be counted as only group or only individual depending on student interest area.
  3. Embodiment classes – Exposure to a range of facilitation and modalities in  somatic and expressive movement and dance (18hrs minimum). You can choose from your own community’s available classes either in person or online (students pay fees directly to the embodiment class instructor or school.)

Additional expectations:

  1. Students need to explore 2-3 different dance styles in classes online or in their community over the course of the program duration, this can be within the Embodiment classes hours as above.
  2. Students will need to purchase 2 textbooks, approximate cost is $100.00 (Cost may vary due to inflation).
  3. Students will have required readings (often provided, if articles) that students are highly encouraged to read and supplemental readings that are by choice.
  4. Students will prepare and present a 10 minute oral presentation about applying The Movement Arc’s Expressive Movement  Facilitation within their community or for an individual case study (during our last class Community Based Projects).

**In-person courses are dependent on COVID safety protocols; if we cannot meet in person we will meet online. We may request mask wearing and daily Covid home testing in order to participate in person. We honour medical exemptions.

***Students are expected to attend intensives in person. We are not able to accommodate hybrid learning by filming the intensives. If you were to miss an intensive due to illness or other emergency, you would be welcome to attend the following year’s in-person intensive and would receive your Certificate after all coursework is completed.
