Professional Ethics & Cultural Awareness (1 credit)

In Professional Ethics & Cultural Awareness we explore myriad ethical issues that can and do arise within the practice of dance/movement therapy whether in private practice or other clinical settings. Students will embody, discuss and debate the ADTA as well as BCACC ethical standards, and will explore the types of boundary issues that do arise in clinical practice, as well consider one’s moral compass vs one’s professional ethics and how to make ethics based decisions. Special issues such as touch and physical contact when used in DMT is also explored through readings and discussion. We will learn about and discuss different cultural group identities, LGBTQ culture specific considerations, and explore cultural competence and sensitivity within the field of DMT.
